The Warren Striders Track Club, Inc. has been consistently represented at the National Junior Olympics Championships. The Striders have participated 19 times out of the past 22 years and had a string of 11 consecutive years (1985-1995) of National Junior Olympics participation. The club has participated in 4 consecutive national championships in the new millenium (200-2003). The club has qualified 89 individuals from 1982 - 2003 and had 12 relay teams represent the Striders in National JO competition. The Striders can boast of having 16 Regional JO Champions, as well as 1 National Champion in its 26 year history. The club has even had several participants compete in the Senior Olympics (1995, 1997). Founder and head coach Jack Thornton Jr. competed in the Senior Olympics in 2002 and 2003. Thornton was a silver medallist in the 100 meter dash in both years. The Warren Striders have attained notable accomplishments in its 26 year history. 1982: First Warren Striders qualifiiers in the AAU Regional and National Junior Olympics. Regional AAU qualifiers at Essex Community College, Maryland were : *Cecil Dilley (Howland) 1500, 3000; Myron Beyah (W.W.R.) 100, 200; Corey Rowland (W.W.R.) shot, discuss; Marcy Romandetti (Liberty) 100, 200: and Tom Ragland (Ursuline)HJ. *Cecil Dilley (Howland) advanced to the AAU National Championships held at Wake Forest University in North Carolina, placing 9th in the 1500 and 3000. 1983: First Striders qualifier at USATF JO Regional and National Championships. *Ed Grietzer (JFK/Labrae) shot and discus. Placed 3rd in both events at Regionals. Grietzler then placed 5th and 6th in the shot and discus respectively at the USTF National JO meet held at University of Washington, in Seattle, Washington.
